you might want to watch this for some background.

i responded to the custom ringtones' announcement with a small inner glow telling me how apple is, after all, about righting all the wrongs on this earth, and even commented with a couple of friends that all that's missing now is removing the stupid hash from the ipod database and the even more stupid video out restriction. when that happens, i'll unwrap the picture of steve and put it back on the bedside.

john gruber, however, has no possible redemption. in a post about some idiot's remarks on the iphone, he finishes with this gem:
also, with regard to statements-as-fact that a voyager with 3g network is “faster” than an iphone on edge, how about someone runs some side-by-side benchmarks?

i imagine that when dsl (or cable) became available, he was like nah, i'm sticking with the 28.8 modem until someone runs some side-by-side benchmark.

update: ooh, he found a benchmark!

after the technologists jumped to the glory of Adsl or whatever, the REAL PEOPLE needed benchmark between the old crapy modem and new cable to see if it worth of the cost.

beside, the real thing people wanted was the simplicity of adsl/cable (always on internet) and the fact you didn't need to pay how long you are connected. not simply the speed.

and yeah, a faster computer was needed to do a good use the new possible high speed download
-

so now, the phone. yeah, benchmark against the iphone would be good.

because NO ONE say Umts is less fast than edge, of COURSE ! everyone knows umts is faster. it was made for !

but is the phone fast enough to do a good use of the new download speed of 3G and 3G+ ?

it's THAT we need. I don't know if this "voyager" is good.

do you really believe in the crap you wrote?

oh, you're french, sorry. i guess when you're enjoying the luxuries of minitel, dsl/cable/pots is irrelevant.

so tell me, is the "mobile internet" in france in text mode, too?
